Most people calling about a wrinkled or damaged carpet have never hired anyone for this before. Here is exactly what to expect from the first phone call to the last piece of furniture going back against the wall.
Before we ever knock on your door
If it is a stretch, tell us the room dimensions and how many stairs are involved. If it is a repair, a few clear photos of the damage do more than a phone description ever could. Either way, tell us which city you are calling from so we can confirm the job is inside our service area before anyone drives out.
Once we have that, Tricia books the appointment and confirms the time with you directly. The time she gives you is the time we show up. If a job ahead of yours runs long, you hear about it before your window starts, not after it has already passed.
What we need from you the morning of
- All furnishings must be moved a minimum of five feet away from the walls, so we can reach the perimeter and pull against it.
- We utilize Teflon sliders to move the larger pieces away from the walls. That is a paid service, and worth it for a heavy sectional or a piano.
- We do not dismantle furniture in order to move it. Beds that need taking apart are the one thing to sort before we arrive.
A stretch needs the full perimeter of the room reachable, which means furniture has to be at least five feet off every wall before we can start. For a big room or heavy pieces, that is more than most people want to move themselves, so we offer a paid furniture-moving service using Teflon sliders to shift heavy items without dragging them across the floor.
One thing we do not do: dismantle furniture. Bed frames, sectionals and anything bolted together needs to already be in a state we can slide, or moved by you before we arrive.
What actually happens once we are inside
For a stretch, the power stretcher grips the carpet across the room, pulls it taut, and re-secures it to the tack strips at the walls. It is a different tool from a knee kicker, which most homeowners have seen used and which cannot generate the same tension across a full room.
For a repair, patching replaces only the damaged section, not the surrounding carpet that is still fine. For odor or a stain, the treatment goes after the actual source, whether that is uric acid in the pad or a spill that soaked through, rather than masking it on the surface and letting it resurface later.
Why direction matters more than most homeowners think
There is a right and a wrong direction to pull a stretch, and it is not obvious from looking at a room. Pull toward a closet opening or a fireplace hearth instead of away from it and the tension settles in the wrong place, leaving a new wrinkle exactly where the old one used to be. Run a seam straight through a doorway threshold instead of stopping and finishing it there, and the transition strip ends up fighting the stretch instead of anchoring it. None of that is guesswork on our end.
