Slack taken out of a whole bedroom
Both states in one frame. The waves you can see on the left are what the power stretcher pulls out; the tack strips at the wall hold it there.

Wrinkled, torn, burnt, chewed or coming apart at the seams. We fix the carpet that is already on your floor instead of selling you a new one, and most rooms are done in an afternoon.

What loose carpet actually looks like
Humidity off the Sound moves the backing, the foundation settles, and every footstep drags the carpet a fraction further from the wall. Left alone the backing eventually separates from the fibre, and at that point replacement really is the only option. Before that, it is an afternoon.

Somebody else’s patch. The pile runs the wrong way, so it catches the light differently from every angle and reads as a square of the wrong carpet. Cutting the donor piece so the pile direction matches is the entire difference between a repair you cannot find and a repair you look at every day. It is also why we take the donor from a closet rather than from a remnant that merely looks close.
How patching is done properly
The archive
Every one of these is a job. Scroll through and look for the repairs.
What we are called out for
None of these require pulling the floor up. The van carries the stretcher, the iron and the tape, and the job is usually finished the day we arrive.

A power stretcher takes the slack out of the whole floor and re-secures it to the tack strips. Wrinkles and ripples go, and they stay gone. Lifetime guarantee.
Carpet Stretching detailsThe iron
Most carpet was originally seamed with a standard iron, which is why those seams are the first thing to come apart. We use a radio-wave iron that heats the tape adhesive right through rather than scorching the top of it, so the join we make is stronger than the one the installer made. Most seam repairs are finished in under an hour.

What Chris tells every customer
An exact appointment time
Not a four hour window. Tricia confirms it and we arrive then.
Confirmed
The house left as we found it
Offcuts and tape backing go out with us. Reviewers keep mentioning this, which tells you how often it does not happen.
Cleaned up
The stretch is guaranteed for life
If a room we stretched goes loose again, we come back. That is the whole warranty and there is nothing else to read.

The quote is the price
Repair time is billed prorated to the minute rather than rounded up, and the rate card is published on this site.

You should be able to work out roughly what a job costs before anyone knocks on your door. Measure the room, count the stairs, and the figures below will get you close. Repair time is billed prorated to the minute rather than rounded up to the hour, which is the part most people are surprised by.
Text photos of the damage and we will price it for nothing. Discounts go to contractors, realtors, military personnel, property managers, carpet cleaning companies and elderly customers, and they vary by project, so ask when you call.

Before a stretch, furniture needs to be at least five feet off the walls so we can reach the perimeter. We can move the heavy pieces on Teflon sliders for a fee. We do not dismantle furniture.

Chris, Marcelo and Tricia
Chris quotes the work and Marcelo does it. Tricia books the appointment and confirms the time, and the time is the time. That is the whole company, and it is why the reviews read the way they do.
“But after speaking with Chris, the owner and guiding voice behind Carpets by Chris, we were reassured by his honest insight and clear explanation of the process. Marcelo, the skilled craftsman, carried out the work with precision and care. Their combined expertise made the decision easy and ultimately saved us thousands of dollars.”
“On time, quick quality work, very reasonable price! I highly recommend Carpets by Chris for carpet repair.”
“Chris and his team listened to what I was needing done and took the time to answer all my questions! He went the extra mile as well and didn't charge me more than he quoted!”
“Excellent communication and explanations of how to resolve the height discrepancy between carpet to the tile as well as needing to stretch the carpet to reach the new tile. Marcelo was professional, friendly and quick.”
